Scenarios

This page shows a number of possible usage scenarios for the PrivateFile suite of encryption products:

Protect Confidential Document

If you have a report that you want to keep confidential, then use PrivateFile Desktop to encrypt this document using your own secret key, and delete the original source document. To view the document, you can then decrypt the document using your secret key.

EMail Confidential Document

Agree an encryption key to be used with the recipient. You can use the KeyStore to store the key. Use PrivateFile Desktop to encrypt the document with the agreed key. Attach the encrypted document to an email and send to the recipient. The recipient uses the agreed key to decrypt the document.

Payroll Bureau or similar

You provide payroll services to a number of client companies who send it details in a format like Excel etc. You then generate a number of reports using a bespoke application which are then automatically sent to the client companies.
These documents are currently not encrypted en-route and you have decided that they should be, in order to comply with data protection legislation.

Agree with your clients that they should use PrivateFile Desktop to encrypt the payroll information and send them as encrypted email attachments to you. Each of them has their own encryption key. You decrypt these documents using the agreed keys and process the payroll. You can integrate PrivateFile Server into your bespoke application to decrypt the documents and to automatically encrypt the documents which are sent to your clients. The clients can then use PrivateFile Desktop to decrypt the generated reports and documents.

Financial companies and independent agencies

As a financial services company, you exchange confidential documents as email attachments with your agencies. You decide that these documents should be encrypted. The approach is very similar to the Payroll Bureau solution described above. Use a combination of PrivateFile Desktop and PrivateFile Server to automatically encrypt these email attachments.

All outgoing attachments to be encrypted

Your company policy is to encrypt all outgoing email attachments to a certain company or email address. To do this you can integrate PrivateFile Mail Gateway into your corporate email infrastructure.
