Advanced Encryption Standard - AES

The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) for the Advanced Encryption Standard, FIPS-197, specifies Rijndael as a FIPS-approved symmetric encryption algorithm that may be used by U.S. Government organizations (and others) to protect sensitive information. It is expected to have a life of twenty years based on currently known rates of computational development. In any event there will be a review of the algorithm every five years to ensure it appropriateness in light of prevailing technology.
